A Felted Ode to PNW Mushrooms - Sunday

Fungi Felters Unite! We'll be making a little sculptured homage to the mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest, with a special nod to the Orcas Island Garden Club, whose calendar also includes some mushroom related talks and workshops earlier in the week.

Your mushroom sculpture will include but not be limited to a sculpture of the Amanita Muscaria (picture the quintessential red-topped mushroom), and a little more flora and fauna of the felted forest floor for flair. (Sorry. The alliteration insisted).

This class takes place in the rennovated 1880's log cabin, "the wooly homestead", at 4th Seed Farm on Orcas Island. Working with an ancient art medium in a gorgeous historical cabin -- what could be better?

Class will include:

A short introduction to wool and its versatility as an art and craft medium

All the wool and felting tools you will need to finish one mushroom sculpture, including embellishments and a wood round base.

BONUS!: Note that there is a workshop add-on of wet-felting some forest-themed flat felt for all participants to use for embellishment. This will be a 90 minute class that teaches the basics of wet felting and will result in a project that all participants will share. For more info, please see the event page.

Class instruction is $40 + a $10 materials fee ($50 total)

Please note that there are two dates offered for this class: a weeknight and a weekend date. Each class is limited to 8 participants.

If you catch the felting bug I will have supplies/tools for sale. You are welcome to bring your own if you already have favorites.

Felters aged 12+ are welcome. NOTE: Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
